There are some public areas close to the Big Smoke but you will be competing with all the newbs and run & gunners! My suggestion is to drive north west of the city and start knocking on doors.![]()
Good luck.
The seemingly early Strutting activity is completely normal and the Toms will start dancing as soon as they have firm footing.

DVXDUDE said:Hey csmith99, I live about 45min north of toronto in a little town called orangeville. Mono and amaranth townships are FILLED with turkeys...i see like 20 a day when i drive on sideroads...during deer hunting season i seen over 250+ in 5 days...there were flocks of 100 all winter, they are starting to thin out now.
i've seen lots of toms all fanned out struting in february. they answer my calls most of the time but i know they arent in full strut. Some huge toms out there, i shot two 21+lbers last season and some i seen recently have beards draggin on the ground and have to be pushin 25+
pretty sure someone is feeding them too because they get pretty close to some houses lol

The best way to find turkeys is to get out in the country & scout for them. You should do this before hunting season starts. Best method is to get up real early in the morning & slowly drive the backroads. When you locate the birds, ask the farmer for permission to hunt them. If you don't know already you have to take the mandatory "Turkey hunting" seminar from OFAH before you can buy a turkey license. The course in Ottawa is being run on April 14th & 15th. I am lucky in that my Uncle owns a large farm in Lanark county which has a good pop. of deer & turkey. Bit of a drive from my home in Ottawa, but worth it. You might also want to get a Crown land map to find public hunting opportunities. Just be careful hunting on Crown land as generally you will NOT be alone.
Cheers,
George
Theres unforutenly only a couple of areas around the Ottawa region that has crownland, and they were definately over hunted for deer. I doubt they will carry Turkey!
