Hello to all,

I just finished reading the very interesting book by Olson on Mauser bolts. It took me less than 5 days to read... it was captivating. Anyways, in there he talks a little bit about the Turkish Mausers and I was wondering if they are as good shooters as the German ones. From what I can read on the web, they seem to be quite good but wonder what people here at CGN think about this rifle?

I know they appear from time to time on EE. What would be a decent price for a Model 38? Let's say K Kale?

Cheers! :)

I have had a couple in the past and found all of the M98 long barrel ones to be very accurate and as good a shooter as any German made ones even if they are not made quite as nice on the outside.

They seem to sell for between $300 for a average one to about $400 for a very nice one (hard to find) with a good bore and stock. There are some rough ones around with poor bores that are only worth about $200 - $250.

AFAIK, the common Turkish mausers are rebuilds of German and Czech rifles, in other words, first class rifles. The problem is condition, not quality.

I have one, made in 1941.Great cast shooter but with bigger .329 bullets.Worn out throat but rifling in rest of the barrel is 8/10.

Flawless action, excellent feeding-nothing to complain about except real PITA tiny front sight.
Still a keeper.

Turkish Mausers come in all sorts of actions. The 1903 action is a German made intermediate length large ring action with small ring threads. Great actions. There are Czech made actions and Turkish made M98's as well as small ring models out there.

As mentioned it's all about condition. Some of the Turk Mausers have seen an insane amount of use and are badly worn, others not so much. Look for one with a M98 action of any make/model and a decent bore and it will shoot as good as any other milsurp.
