I've always been a Mossberg guy. I've been tempted by the Chinese pump and semi autos over the years, but never took the plunge. With the recent modern Turkish semi autos ... seems to be some good improvements. My experience with semi auto shotguns has been limited to Benelli with a 26"bbl that I used for trap and Sporting clays ... (I preferred the O/U). I've only ever considered the Benelli M4 as a tactical shotgun (especially seeing Remington's and Mossberg SA's fail during 2 day defensive shotgun courses).

There are two semi auto pistol grip Turks that have really caught my eye recently. They are probably coming out of the same Turkish factory ... and are available in Canada

  • M4 clone "aka Turknelli" variants
  • Derya Mk12 / Typhoon variants

The differences are obvious. 5 round tube vs. mag fed. The Mk12 ability to switch loads from buck to slugs has its appeal. Both have a "break in period" as I understand as well ...

The "clone" of the M4 is well discussed here. But I wanted to get some feedback from users on the above two semi modern shotgun offerings... more about the gas operated system. Pros and cons?

I have an MK12 and it's been awesome. Ran 50 rounds of heavy through it and didnt have one hiccup. It shoots target now as well. Always been reliable, easy to take down and clean. It's a lot of fun to shoot. If you go that route I ran mine wet for the break in and it seemed to help as I didnt have one issue. You can also get 10 round mags for them. A site sponsor has some left at $50 each which is a steal.

I thought that it had a 5 round limit?
 
Ya I’m in the same boat ...I’ve been eyeing up those two ...and can’t make a descsion on either one .....the real deal of a benelli m4 is so appealing but at 2600.00!!!.....one could buy booth of them for that price ....also ...I think either would be great for beginner 3 gun
Anyone here have experience with these ...please inform me ...of this and that and problems etc..,etc...etc..

Ive had both, MK12 and S&J Turknelli.

If i had ti choose one of the 2 i would go with a Tacord Hurricane. Yup its a bit of $$ for a Tacord modified gun but worth it imo.
I wouldnt touch anything S&J works on, he dont stand behind his products.
The MK12 I had worked good and like mentioned AS46 mags do work with it.
I just dont trust Turkish manufacturing.
 
this has been helpful. Both Turks seem to have their merits, however so am leaning towards the mag fed option in regards to versatility
 
OK - after deliberation I went with the Canuck Operator / Turknelli M4 clone. The determining factor was the size of the mags for the Mk12.
I expect it this week and will post some opinions and break in...

I will hopefully get a Mk12 sooner than later - however they seem to be changing up all the time (typhoon, Derya variants).. The bullpups looks fun too. But the smaller KELTEC maybe a decent option in that regard...

Next step is to source a sidesaddle for the Operator - any suggestions guys?
