My oldest boy will be 10 this year in the middle of duck season and cant wait to get his jr hunting license. So he will need his own gun. i looked at 20ga youth models, but after shooting some informal clays with some friends single 20s i noticed the recoil to be that of a 12 pump(due to weight?)., i have a 870 police in my safe and my thought was to put a hogue 12" LOP butt stock and a factory synthetic fore end(they are longer for better reach). Im just not sure on which barrel to use. i could get a 26" express barrel thats threaded but i think it may be to long, he may have trouble swinging smoothly and risking him bumping the muzzle on the ground. i would think a 22" barrel would be a good size as to still retain some velocity while keeping the weight rearward. Also what about using a ported choke to help with recoil? i would also try putting weight in the butt stock as another recoil reduction. He already has a 22 and a 243 so he knows how to shoot, just want to increase his chances. I dont have any other 20's so it would be a new gauge to stock, whereas i have lots of 12. A semi 20 would be ideal but i want him to make each shot count and not spray and pray. Id rather see him do well with a pump this year and then maybe next year see about a semi
