Turning antlers into custom cutlery

Hey there, guys. Need some advice.

The buck I took this year... well, he was pretty easy hunting. Just stood there looking at me, 15 yards away while I fumbled worth magazines and such. Him being a 2 X 1, the joke came about that he was "so eager to get eaten, he brought a knife and fork". Yes, we are legendary wits.

He's also turned out to be the best venison I've ever had.

So rather than mount the rack, I want to get his antlers turned into the handles for a knife and fork. Like, the complete antlers, with a knife sticking out of the root of one antler, and a fork sticking out of the root of the other.

Googling has proved fruitless. Any ideas on where to find someone who could do this right?

I'm having a hard time finding the knife and fork with sockets/stick tangs. I thought Lee Valley or somebody would have them, but no such luck. Cheers.

I would just cut off a knife and fork of your choosing the right length and file/grind a tang to insert into the bone. Wouldn't take long. Leave as much length and width as you can for the tang.

Use drill bits of the right size to hollow the bone, leaving enough material to clean up with a dremel or small chisels to snugly fit the tang, then epoxy in place!

Go to your local hospital auxiliary thrift store or any thrift store for that matter and browse the silver ware or cutlery section.
You are bound to find a nice set there for half pennies on the dollar ..ever silver ware for that matter ..pennies on the dollar I say.
So, when allies said and don your going to show us your dremelling and exposing skills , correct?

get some G2 epoxy to bed the tang .. and your done !

you should let your antler sit for awhile .. it needs to dry and season abit

All airborne powders do this, man up.
Bentonite causes cancer if inhaled, that's clay for anyone wondering what bentonite is.
I usually wear some sort of mask if there is going to be airborne dust of any sort...it's obvious to do so IMO

I did this with a set of cooking utensils I got at the dollar store. Their inventory may have changed in the past couple years but what they had then was ideal.

Why not go out and buy a set of knives and forks that you like (as in a set of 4, 6, whatever...). Then you have a few to test-modify with a grinder/file to get the result you want.

If it's real silverware you're after, probably a thrift store or kijiji/ebay?
