I finally completed my lower build with a aero precision lower and s&j lpk and s&j buffer and buffer tube. Slapped my Norinco CQ-A upper onto it and had it out the range yesterday. Compared to my Norinco Lower and my buddy's Daniel Defense my lower makes a pretty loud twang sound when it cycles. Does anyone have any experience with a Twang Buster like this brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/buffer-tube-parts/buffer-tube-hardware/ar-15-m16-twang-buster-prod32505.aspx and do you know of where I can get one in Canada without paying too much it's a $6.00 US part so I'm hoping I can get it it for less than 10-15 cdn.

Thanks

My understanding is this "Twang" you speak of is a factory option offered only on these Norinco upper's.

It is to be appreciated and enjoyed by the whole family, as it is not easily removed I would say leave it and just let your Twang live loud and proud.;)

Cheers D

I don't think anyone would admit to buying one, but we'll see. It's the sound of victory!

I know this helps no-one, but we all have a mission.

Jp silent captured spring is what you need.
Or a better buffer tube apparently on cheaper ones interior finish isn't as smooth. I hear a twang on my colt Canada too, seems it's apart of the design?

some people use that noise as a queue when to reload.....

Boltgun

That would mean I'd have to reload after every shot, I do expect to hear some sound but the S&J buffer tube and spring are considerably louder and more high pitched than other AR's. I looked into the J&P stuff and it's a little more than would I would like to spend, hence the twang buster. Any recommendations and a sponsor for a silicone buffer spring?

Thanks

let me rephrase that...the sudden absence of that noise is the queue to reload. Sometimes, focusing on something else minimizes the sound...when you become more aware of it, and focus on it more, it can seem louder. Now that said, I haven't heard your rifle, maybe it's ridiculously loud, but all AR's that I have fired have been roughly the same, LMT, Bushmaster, Armalite, CC, Colt, Aero, Stag. Sorry I can't help otherwise.

I've got the twang buster in a couple ARs and they're being used along with the JP Tuned buffer spring. The twang is there the odd time but for the most, it's gone. The other option as pointed out is the JP Silent Captured buffer spring which is a chunk of money but it does make your AR seem a lot smoother.

AR's have their own language. They talk to you. When the bolt locks back, you get a 1/2 twang (Tavor's do something similar). Once you learn how to listen, you can speak her language.

Feed me. Feed me.

So just an update, I replaced the buffer spring with a cheap DPMS buffer spring and now it makes a dull thud instead of a high pitched twang when it cycles. I did notice that the spring that came with the buffer tube kit is a lot shorter than the DPMS spring so I'm thinking that's why I had a high pitched twang.

I am definitely not an AR expert but I was shooting a friends AR by Rock River last Jan in Arizona and it made a similar sound when cycling.
