On switch barrel (if that is what there called) shotguns, and more specifically the 870, do you modify it in any way when you put the slug barrel on. Although the accuracy is fairly decent, do you do something to try and squeeze a bit better results from it. Reading on Shotgun world they tried the "pop can shim" to tighten up the movement of the barrel. Has anyone tried this or any other method that you feel works better.

Does pinning the barrel mean you can no longer switch out different barrels? I assume any gunsmith could do this.

"...modify it in any way when..." Nope. One barrel comes off and the other put on. Other than sighting in a slug barrel, nothing else is necessary. Doesn't hurt to do a trigger job though.

That's why Remington came up with the cantilever scope mount on their slug barrels, mount the scope to the barrel and you can take it (the barrel) off without losing your point of impact. Before this, it was common to "pin" a barrel for slugs, and it was usually the reciever that had the scope mounted to it, and this would give you some degree of consistancy.
