Hi all

After my last curly maple stock, I was asked to make another. In fact, I had to make one for Eddycat, and someone asked me to make another. Fortunately, both actions are Savage F/TR in 308, so it means same inletting...or so I tought, more on that later....

First, select wood, cut on the bandsaw and glue the blocks

Then I took time to measure the inletting on the rifle I had (the other one was coming in the mail), and I took notes for the inletting.

And I started the inletting. To get the exact 1.35 inch, I use a 1.25 router bit, and I do two passes, offsetting by about 3/64th. Then I take a 1 5/16 closet rod wrapped in sandpaper to check, usually I end up pretty close. Both stocks will be bedded anyway.

A bit more. I worked on the buttplate. One stock will be the system with the short rail like I did on my own stock, the other will be with a buttplate system that Eddycat made from scratch with his small lathe. I am impressed by what come out of his basement !

Long overdue update !

You know by now how I work, so I'll post the pics and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Cheek riser installed

StarShooter bipod installed inside one of the stock

Pillar installed before bedding

I removed wood with the router to allow the bedding to take place

Bedding

2 of them done. One client wanted the barrel supported, and the other I did not. I tested on my rifle with and without support, and there was no difference in the precision.

Next is the exterior shape

I started the finish (tung oil), so next pictures will be of the 3 rifles together, my own and those 2.

Hope you like it

Absolutely fantastic, can't wait to see the final result.. Where did you get that extendable/adjustable buttpad and hardware for adjustable cheek rest??
