Twist Rate once again

Age old Question, 1 in 12 or 1 in 10 twist in 26" barrel with 167 Scenars Lapua's

Actually, even 1-13 would be fine.

Some barrel makers have recommended twist rates on their websites... if using a 'long' bullet choose the quicker twist. Slightly quicker is always better than too slow.

From Shilen:
.308
- 8" for bullets heavier than 220 gr.
- 10" for bullets up to 220 gr.
- 12" for bullets up to 170 gr.
- 13" * Ratchet rifled 4 groove
- 14" * for bullets up to 168gr.
- 15" * for bullets up to 150 gr.
- 17" * for bullets up to 125 gr.

I recall shooting the old 180 Sierra match in my 1:14. They worked just fine. They were longer than the current version.

1;12 works for all the conventional bullets.

12 twist for anything you can shoot out of a 308. I think it was Bill Leeper once told me about shooting 175 SMKs out of a 14 twist.

I have used 1 in 10" twist barrels on a few M14s using 175gr SMKs with great results.

My bolt gun currently sports a 1 in 11.3" twist McPhee barrel that has been excellent.......................

In theory you are twisting the bullet faster than it needs and it may be slightly less accurate than if the correct twist was used. In all probability your rifle is not accurate enough to see a difference. Serious Benchrest shooters in Benchrest calibers may.
