I traded my Browning BT-99 Golden Clays trap gun for a new Beretta A400 Xcel semi auto. Ongoing wood fit issues with the Browning was a headache I grew tired of.... I loved the gun, but decided to move on. Moving on in no small part to wanting one gun for both trap and skeet.

I am looking at going with Briley choke tubes and have two options (see photo's). Option one is (HP) Extended Black Oxide choke tubes. Option two is (HP) Helix Black Oxide choke tubes. The helix variant is double the cost, with the sole benefit claimed to be adding a slight twist to the shot, resulting in a more even pattern at the outer circumference of the shot pattern.

Has anyone here had any experience with the Briley Helix choke tubes? Perhaps it is just marketing kool aid.... and not worth the expense. I was looking to buy Improved Modified, Modified, and Full chokes by Briley.

Now, given the Beretta came with Improved Modified and Modified chokes (which are likely just fine choices).... a smarter bet may be to buy just full choke Brileys.... one in the standard Black Oxide and one in the Helix.... pattern and compare.

I appreciate any thoughts or feedback. Thanks.

Thanks, good points.

Sometimes one needs to merely verbalize a thought, have it tested, & get a simple reply to make a mostly obvious decision.

I appreciate not being heckled for going the semi auto route. :)

I've shot clean with the bt-99 I owned, so it is a step into the unknown with the Beretta, other than knowing the A400 fit me perfectly. I look forward to shooting it..... in about 4 months once winter is over.

Ported tubes are garbage. Such a pain to clean and always dirty. Personally i dont like any briley chokes though. If buying aftermarket chokes id buy Muller just for ease of cleaning. They pattern very well also.

My best choke advice would be to buy used. You can save a considerable amount of money buying chokes used. And the CGN EE makes that even more likely.
