I got a Cooey Ace 1 off the exchange a month ago from a fellow in Alberta. I also know of two other guys that have them here in Southwestern Ontario.
Personally I haven't seen many of them and think they may be a little rare. I took a couple pictures of them and will explain them below.
My friends is on the top with the walnut stock, and screw on bolt handle and has a metal butt plate. It is marked only with Ace 1 the other one I know of is the same.
Mine is the one on the bottom. It has a pine stock which is as thin as a board, has a repair done to the wood and has a non screw on bolt handle.
The barrel is also a little thinner than the one pictured on top. I don't think the stock is a replacement.
There isn't a lot of info out there on these except for the basic company info. Does anyone actually know when these particular models were made especially mine?
I wondered if mine is an earlier model due to the bolt handle being one piece and the stock pine but not too sure. Bore is poor but is still accurate at 25 yrds. Much value to it?

I purchased this rifle to teach my son to shoot when he is old enough but the bolt is a little hard to pull back. I will play around with it but may want to try a trade for a savage rascal at some point.

Gunsaholic: the bolt handle on mine is square, I thought my stock was a replacement but the inletting on the trigger guard and the hole cut for the trigger are done very well.

Your gun is a bit earlier than your friends. Early ones were marked .22 long rifle and later ones were marked .22 cal. From John Belton's book, your gun was made between 1929-1934 and your friend's from 1935-1942. I can't make it out but your gun should have a square bolt handle. It should also have a walnut stock with no butt plate. As far as I know, the only Cooey stock that was not walnut was the original Cooey Rabbit. It had a fairly flat stock with no butt plate. It is possible that that is what's on yours. However, there may have been variations and maybe your stock is original for an early Ace1. While the Ace 1 and Ace 3 are not as easy to find today, thay are not exactly rare. The Ace 2 is the one that is hard to find.
