cost to shoot that flinter should be about 21 cents per shot. using 30 grns fffg for about 10 1/2 cents, ball 5 cents-if you cast your own and patch 5 cents-store bought. working hard at it you should spend about 4.20- per hour. no wonder us retirees like this sport so much. cheers

I noticed that some flint locks have rubber or leather between the "jaws" of the hammer and the flint is this a good idea to keep the flint in place???
The flinter should be cheaper to run.....no pesky caps @ 7 cents each!!!

A thin piece of leather is needed because the flint being hard, is not compressed by the jaws and would slip very easily. It would also stand a good chance of breaking. While some people like lead, I don't think it is good of a choice

cheers mooncoon

Thanks for the replies...I will be up and running with the flinter in about 2 weeks when the mold and flints show up. With a smooth bore and no sights it will be a challenge to hit the target.:D
