TWO OF MY FAVOURITES.

Having seen you post your Needham before on the forum I'm always a bit envious. I would love to add one to my collection but so far finding one that ticks all the boxes has eluded me. Does your have the V cut in the stock under the barrel band?

Nice looking assault rifle. Your picture drawing attention to the colour of the barrel makes me wonder if the barrel and brass tipped ramrod were refinished in blue at Harpers Ferry when the the barrel was altered to accept the M1855 bayonet.

Whitney contract Model 1841 Rifles had browned barrels. I have 1850 dated Whitney Model 1841 and the barrel is browned, lock colour casehardened. The trigger, barrel band retainers, and sling loops are fire blued. Ramrod unfinished in the white.

Do you shoot any of these lovely old rifles?

I often take my original 1858 Pritchett Volunteer rifle for an outing. As you see, it is modelled on the slimmer P51 rifle, rather than the P58-based Snider underneath. It also has a hook breech.
