I've got two Savage rifles.
One has a Nightforce 8x32x56
The other Savage has a Mueller Mildot 8.5 25x44.
After shooting with the NF,the Mueller has to go.
I'm using a Ken Farrel one piece base with 30mm Burris Signature high rings on the Savage with the Nightforce.
I'm thinking of selling the Mueller and putting the same base/ring setup on the other Savage and just trading the NF between the two.
I usually go for a few months with one rifle and then a few with the other,
so it doesn,t seem like it would be a big hassle, except for sighting in
when changing the scope.
Anyone else do this.
Don,t tell me to buy another NF...lol

I would Leave the rings on the scope and swap everything over to the other base. This should keep you closer to having your scope and rifle square. And i would also hate to scratch up that nice NF by swaping it out of the rings all the time.

Hey,
Why didn,t I think of that.
I think I did,but wasn,t concerned because the rings have the plastic Burris inserts which don,t scratch the scope.
Your suggestion would make things a lot easier and I would save the cost of another set of rings.
I guess my concern of leaving the scope in the rings is that it could somehow
put unnatural pressure or torque on the scope when mounting it on a different rifle.

It could put some stress on the scope. I guess it would all come down to the quality controll from the manufacturer of your rail. If everything is up to snuff it should be ok. You could also use the Leupold QR mounts. But then again who is to say both of your actions are drilled and tapped the same witch would also cause stress on the scope. I guess I just answered your question. Buy another set of rings, lap both rings and worry about squaring up the scope and rifle every time.

Dumb idea. Eventually you'll have the scope settings wrong when you go to use it and it coud cost you a wounded animal, if you're hunting. Don't try to skimp - get a decent or good scope for the second rifle. Look at a used Leupold to keep costs down or just go whole hog and buy another NXS. To go to the trouble of swapping the scope into a new set of rings, re-levelling it and re-sighting in is fasle economy. You'll waste a schwack of ammo and you could put that money toward a new scope.

You're right BigUglyMan.
I just needed to hear it.
Thanks for giving my head a shake.
I'll shoot with what I have till I can afford a better scope to put on the other Savage.

Get Leupold QRW rings and two bases the same. Switching back and forth is easy. Takes a minute to do.

That way you will learn to use the one good scope.

I have a Savage and a Remington with the same type of bases and all I have to do is correct my windage when I switch. I have the correction written down

My shooting partner does it all the time also.

Just my 2 c

I have this on my Thompson center and have not had a problem with them.
