Two SKS questions

I just bought an SKS recently. Replaced the original firing pin with a spring loaded firing pin, and took it to the range first time today. I got surprisingly good groups, but I realized, there is no windage adjustment. My groups are a bit on the left. So, the questions.

1. Is there a proven solution for windage adjustment for an SKS? I heard about a replacement rear sight with windage adjustment. Has anybody tried it? Is it available here in Canada? Is it any good? Any other solutions?

2. Cleaning. Do you clean your SKS after every use? I also heard that the ammo could be corrosive, and therefore more frequent cleaning is required. What do you guys do?

Thanks in advance.

You front sight is adjustable for both windage and elevation. Push the front sight into the problem, ie. you are shooting to the left, push the front sight to the left to correct the zero.
Most ammo available now is corrosive, you need to clean with hot soapy water first, then clean regularly!

1. cant answer - sorry!

2. Get GUNZILLA, this product is without doubt one of the best cleaning / lubricating agents I've ever used. Two months ago after going through 950 rounds on my sks, I stripped the gun and completely cleaned and detailed it with gunzilla. Then two weeks ago I was shooting again ( approx 150 rounds - surplus ammo ) but didnt get a chance to clean until this past sunday, not a spec of rust or any type of corrision damage. I couldnt believe it. Two weeks of sitting in a case in the trunk of my car in 35C - 45C degree weather.. the gun was fine. I wouldnt recommend waiting that amount of time to clean it, but after using gunzilla..im confident if I cant clean same day.. ill be good for a few more.

Short answer - clean your gun shortly after shooting surplus ammo :) In terms of boiling water and all that, well.. I never have.. and 1100 rounds later, gun is still shooting great.

Bought gunzilla from Dave @ Neit Arms ( incase your wondering )

Arctic Warrior, the windage adjustment on the SKS/AK/CZ858 is done via the windage drum that the front sight post is screwed into. Most of CGN's dealers at the top of the page can set you up with the proper tool for adjustment for $10-20. If your ammo is in grey laquered steel cases then it is most likely corrosive. I dont know what type of cases the chinese non corrosive surplus used so I cant say to a certainty. Brass cased commercial stuff is not corrosive. If shooting corrosive than most people find it necessary to clean the rifle within a short period of time after shooting. This depends on where you live and relative humidity, but in the peace region of Alberta, my gas tube starts to rust within several hours, although thats the only place I get rust. Check all the stickies on the SKS in the red rifles section, lots of great info there on different cleaning techniques. Some are quick and simple while others are more time consuming. Myself I use gunslick ultra-klenz solvent on patches to clean the field stripped rifle and cheap outers oil on everything except the gas system. Perfectly clean bare steel will take some time to rust but will rust with humidity and temperature. Heat+Moisture+Oxygen in contact with the iron in the steel creates rust. To combat this I use a light coat of Ballistol Klever oil in the gas tube and on the gas piston. It goes on light enough to burn away when firing without collecting residue and baking on, but keeps moisture and oxygen off the steel to stop rust.

ya there are sight adjustment tools made exsactly for the sks and if u shoot surplus clean right after and then ur safe thats what seems work for me anyone no best place to by a sight adjustment to like weres cheepest i used a buddies but id like have mine

A Yugoslavian 59-66 SKS has a plain steel barrel, other countries chrome lined the SKS barrel. If the Yugo 59-66 is not cleaned after each use the bore will end up severely pitted from corrosive ammo and the gas tube and components will erode.

I have a Chinese SKS with a chrome bore and a Yugo 59-66 SKS and I clean both after shooting them. The fact of the matter is I clean all my firearms after getting home from the range no matter what type of ammo is used.
