I got a Type 38 used its been re chambered to 8 mm mauser. Took it to gunsmith to see if it would be safe to fire, he tested it says its all good, it will shoot but he told me it has a Type 30 bolt not a 38 and that the extractor was removed from it. Based on google a Type 30 bolt should not fit a type 38. I want to get a Type 38 bolt for the gun but unsure if its modified to the point it wont take a 38 bolt anymore, I also cant find anything in Canada in terms of actually sourcing a bolt, see a bunch in the US. That is a Type 30 (aka hook safety) bolt.
A Type 38 rifle was 6.5mm. How - and by whom - was it converted to 8mm? Rebored, rechambered? Done in China?
Sooner or later, a Type 38 bolt might turn up.
If you find a bolt, be very cautious before shooting it.

So there's no markings showing it was done in china, I was told it could of been done in Finland as the mum was stamped with Tokyo Arsenal sold to Russia possibly ? It does fire with the 30 bolt in it, I would get rechecked again from a gunsmith for the headspace if I do find a bolt.

Apparently there were Arisaka rifles converted in Finland to sporting rifles in 8x57. Corwin-Arms currently has one for sale.
