I got a spare gas tube lying around with broken wood...

Are these fairly common?

And where can they be found?

Only used for two years of production. 79 to 80, or if you use the newest theory on dating as touted by sks-files dot com (which seems well researched), 78 and 79.

Might be a hard find in Canada. There are a couple that Marstar brought in on their last shipment, but they were low numbers on that boat. Rare little variation.

There has to be someone who "tacti-fooled" their SKS and discarded it to the parts bin (assuming these types keep parts around that aren't Tapco or NcStar)

I found it there too... $80 shipped. Might have to order a bunch of other parts to make it worth while.
I'm not even sure what model of SKS they would look good on? I collect SKS's and haven't felt the need to tack one of these on to any of them yet. Post some pics if you do though please.

I think they are meant to be used in conjunction with the Viet Cong fiberglass stocks on the ChiCom SKS.

Chinese factory 26 guns from 79/80 (or 78/79 depending if you side with the newest dating theory). 23 and 24million serial numbers. Wood stock guns with the upside down rear takedown lever and the cutout in the stock for said lever.

Not related to the fiberglass stocks in any way.
