Type 56 Heat Shield Removal.

I bought a Choate stock for my Chinese SKS today. The stock fits really nice but I can't push that pin out that holds the wooden heat shield over the gas tube. Does anyone have pointers they can give me to get it out?

Thanks,
You need a good steel punch the appropriate size and a hammer. Usually, the pin is beveled at 1 end so drive it from that side. Rest your handguard firmly(hardwood block work great),take your punch and dont be shy with the hammer, the pin will get out. I never seen a pin yet that i couldnt remove using that procedure.

Joce,

I tried again like you said but it just will not come out. It was starting to mushroom the pin. I took it to a local machine shop to get my Choate mount installed. He is going to see what he can do for me.

Thanks for the reply.
keep us informed, i think somes gunnutz even ended drilling the oin when nothing else worked but like i said, i ever had problem yet to remove one.

I don't know about that, I couldn't get that pin out of a Russian refurb without having to drill it. That sucker might just as well have been welded in there

Even using penetrating oil, Knock 'er Loose, and a large hammer didn't work.
