So I had a Type 56 and liked it, and sold it. Then I bought a Russian (no idea where from, I just bought it to shoot and never checked out the serial #s). I like the Russian's laminate stock, but would like another Type 56, just because I like the idea that I can buy a new rifle fairly cheaply, and I do see they are pretty affordable still.

I'm curious as to how much fitting I'll have to do if I want to take a new Type 56 and drop it in my laminate stock. I really like the Russian wood.

I've taken the Russian all apart, taken the action, barrel etc., out of the stock - just wondered what parts compatibility is.

Every sks is "unique" in his own right , might take a bit of work but should fit with the exemption of the bayonet ( blade on the rusian and spike on the Chinese)

Yeah, I could always switch bayonets or just junk it. I plan to use it for a hunting rifle so a bipod might make more sense. I have no interest at all in "tacticooling" this rifle, but it might help me with field accuracy.

I find the SKS shoots a lot better with the bayonet extended rather than it not. I haven't been able to compare it to an SKS with the bayonet removed. If you watch those Classic Firearms Type 56 unboxing videos on youtube, there is a number of Chinese Type 56 rifles that are sitting in Russian stocks when they pull the gun out of the box. If some African $@#%hole army can fit a Chinese SKS into a Russian stock then I'm sure you're capable of doing it too. I don't even think you need to remove your Russian from its stock to give it to the Type 56. I'm sure you can find a laminate stock on the EE or even order a Boyd's thumbhole laminate stock.
