Hello fellows canucks!
I got some spare time so i decided to put a little tutorial about basic disassembly of the Type 81 rifle. Manys of us who already own a Type 81 probably know everything needed but i think a tutorial could be useful for futur owners and anyway i like taking pictures! This procedure is to show how to field strip a Type 81 only using the tools from rifle tools kit.The cleaning kit is basic but very effective.

Field stripping
First pull the charging handle to be sure the rifle is unloaded and clear.
Depress the magazine catch and pull the magazine out of rifle.
Pullback charging handle to close the action.
Remove cleaning rod from rifle
Remove cleaning kit from the buttstock, careful to not get your finger trapped in the process!
Cleaning kit components from left to right:
-cleaning rod extension
-cleaning brush
-cleaning jag
-gas port cleaning tool
-utility punch
-cleaning kit case/combo tool
To remove the dust cover, push the latch at the rear to unlock the cover. Cleaning rod or a bullet tip can be used but easy to do only with finger.
Remove the recoil spring by pushing the spring guide foward to disengage the guide from the receiver and pull spring assembly away.
To remove bolt and bolt carrier, place selector to "FIRE" position and pull the bolt/carrier to the rear and lift out of rifle.
To remove bolt from the carrier, turn the bolt head to disengage from the carrier and pull the bolt away.
To remove upper handguard, turn the rear sight to the 1 setting
Pull out the left knob on the rear sight and turn counter clockwise so the no 1 face up and pull the handguard up and away from rifle.
To remove the gas piston, turn the piston cup past the 1 setting so the piston cup locking tab disengage from the gas block
Pull the piston cup from the gas block and clear the cup/piston/piston spring away from rifle
Basic field disassembly complete!
Reassemble in reverse order. The dust cover might be a bit tricky to install. The front part must engage under the rear sight as show
To reinstall the cover, use the rear of the cover to push the locking button while aligning the front under the rear sight.Push completely foward and down so the lock button will pop out of the rear of the cover. Note how the cover is installed at the back of receiver.
Bolt disassembly
On the underside of the bolt,a small pin must be drifted toward the top in order to remove the firing pin and the extractor retaining pin.
To drift the pin,the small punch from cleaning kit can be used, along with the cleaning kit case as an handle to push the punch.
Drive the pin far enough so the extractor pin can be also removed afterward.
The firing pin can now be removed from the bolt
To remove extractor, push on the extractor face to relieve tension and drift out the retaining pin.
The extractor and spring will come out
Reassemble in reverse order. fews things to note:
The extractor pin is carved to allow the firing pin retaining pin to lock it in place. The carved part must face toward the back of the bolt.
Reinstalling the extractor, pressure must be applied on the extractor face to reinstal the pin.
The reinstalled pin should look like this
To install the firing pin, pay attention to the milled surface of the firing pin. The picture show the direction the firing pin should be installed if viewed from top of the bolt.
Once the firing pin is installed, push the retaining pin back in place. The bottom of the cleaning kit case is a good tool to push the pin in place
Internals disassembly
To remove safety selector, the selector spring must be depress to allow the selector to be pulled from the receiver.
The spring can be depressed with a tool or a finger and the selector can be pulled out.
To remove trigger and hammer, remove the locking plate inside of receiver. The safety selector must be removed before taking the locking plate off.
Once the plate is removed, the trigger pin can be pulled off and the trigger assembly removed. The small punch is perfect to push the pin out.
Same procedure for the hammer assembly
The trigger and hammer pins have different diameter. The groove at the end of the pins must be on left side of receiver so the locking plate can be installed correctly.
Reinstall in reverse order.
