Just got my folder, really like it, but would love a red dot or small scope option, as my eyes are getting old.

Any ideas on how to mount a red dot?

Handguard upgrade, side mount, or is there any mount that would saddle the rear sight block and provide a 20mm short rail?

Saw the metal handguards but they look just too bulky.

Thanks
Randy

Not much in the way of options right now, there is the replacement front handguard which seems to be the easiest way to go for now if you want an optic. A couple guys have mounted side rails but that commits you to permanently altering your receiver.

I am waiting to see what the aftermarket comes up with, I am sure at some point we will see some different ideas for mounting an optic. For now it is irons for me.

I have a quadrail handguard for the type 81 on the ee. It's the only way without modifying the rifle so far. Take a look

looking online the only thing i have found for the type 81 is the quad rail from TI but it is very bulky looking and ugly.

from what some people have done with ak47s around the world from what im seeing i think some ideas can be done to our type 81s

one idea would be to modify cut down the stock rear sight and mount a small rail in that loaction, but would be limited to only using smaller red dot sights etc. no large scopes.

the other idea would be to mount on top of the cover like this.

i have yet to try but will do more research and see what might work. i think mounting the rail on top of the rear cover will work but the ####ty part is it wont be as accurate because that cover needs to be removed everytime for cleaning the gun.

Ideas can be tossed around, inventions can be made, but the side rail mount will always remain to be the most accurate and robust way to mount an optic to a red rifle.

The best mounts are the battle proven mounts. the Kachin snipers uses side mount and the magwedge type rail but since our butt stock aren't removable then our only option is the side mount.

So far I saw a guy fit a VZ58 bottom handguard with a SKS tapco top handguard, Im on the look out for a tapco sks top handguard with a rail, just to play around with it

Only thing about the side mount is the safety on the T81, Im unsure if it needs to be moved or not.

Only thing about ordering from wolverine...you will be waiting awhile. I ordered a scope mount for my ar15 5 days ago and it hasn't even left Winnipeg yet because of the Canada post strike
