I'm really interested in putting a mount on my Type 81 and was wondering if anyone has come up with any creative solutions. The TI rails are expensive and I hear mixed reviews about them. Seems like too much money for something that might not be straight.

I had remembered months ago when I purchased my type 81 that there was a much cheaper rail available through ali express specifically or was I imagining that?

Is there another decent rail solution other than the TI that is realistically in stock somewhere?

Also I know you would have to modify the rifle to have it take an AK mount, but has anyone ever successfully modified an AK mount to fit on a Type 81?

murray has done but i do not know if he will do it for others, good luck

The other complication with modifying an AK mount to mount like Tactical Imports mount does is making the bolts that fasten it to the gun. Such a bolt needs to have very precise grooves cut in it to interface with the spring plate in the receiver.

Stuff is definitely in the works. TNAs has leaked photos of an "Magwedge" styled 1913 rail for Type 81s. There is a AK / SVD hybrid mount going into production soon to that will also support an AK styled safety. Nothing more can really be said about these things until they actually come to be.... and i open up a small business account with CGN haha.

Here's my two posts on the main Type 81 mod thread
linking through to the Instagram posts showing the prototype True North Arms Beryl-style 1913 rail for the Type 81:

It looks like they are pairing it with a Zhukov stock adapter, for those who don't want to permanently modify that stock, and potentially allowing the use of other AK stocks. Using the Zhukov makes sense, since you can either buy or 3D print cheek risers for it, in case the optic is too high in the rail form someone's preference.

Thanks for the info! Yeah I hear a few might be in the works so maybe I will just wait it out. I guess I can cope with the irons for now....

I figured out the whole mount issue and affixed an decent 4x zoom scope optic. But I'm having terrible zeroing it to 50 yards. Anybody have any issues here? Any tips?

Winter Cabin, for a pic of the TNA mag "magwedge" style rail follow TNA on Instagram and look at their post on April 6. Personally this rail has too much overbore.
