How did you attach the scope to the rear sight post? Interesting idea for a red dot or prism sight.

I designed the mount then CNC'ed it from 6061 Aluminum and after what feels like a million prototypes I feel pretty good about this one. Leaves the Iron Sights fully functional and is good a solid fit, the majority of the stability is from and force is against, the interior contours and front lips vs the center pin.

This one is a direct mount for a Vortex reddot, with the same pattern as their standard mounts, to keep it low, will likely do the usual suspects of base plate patterns for dots and prisms.

That height over bore seems excessive. I know the soviets favor that approach but if there was a novel mount it would be great if it was as low as possible.

The idea was to have this modification completely reversible, so this means the mount has to ingest the height of rear site post inside itself, and also be able to contain the hardware to keep the mount attached. Probably similar height issues to the Polish AK-based Beryl .223 modified with a full rail with enough clearance for ejection. You could probably counteract this readily with a cheek rise of some kind, though.

The creator of the Red Dot Mount is also making a Type 81 specific wider and longer mag release. Both are now available on a Made to Order basis from Mcwistle.com.
