When I picked up my Type 81 it came with the Herron Arms mount. The rail pretty much covers the length of the dust cover. I’ve had a red dot on it a couple times but haven’t given it any serious attention. I’m guessing this offering is an earlier option; I don’t see anything available from them any more. So, any feedback on these? Wondering about return to zero for RDS or LPVO when removing for cleaning.

What’s the consensus out there for those that have these? Are the Master Mount offerings any better?

Is there a source for replacement receiver pins if one decides to remove the mount?

They all pretty much perform the same as they are all held in place by the same internal sections of spring plate. Arguably the models that have the widest footprint and most centralized bolts will likely be the most rigid for heavier optic setups. The big thing the Master Mount Rails offer over the older Tactical Imports Rails (outsourced to Herron Arms) is complete compatibility with all AK optics and side mounts. Valuable for those intending to try different setups over the years. But negligible to those wanting to run the same full length 1913 side mount for eternity.

FWIW I have the Master mount on my 81M and I have a Primary Arms 1-6x Nova and it holds zero, and returns to zero if I remove it for cleaning. If you want receiver pins I'd just contact Tactical Imports.

I assume the front of the lpvo sticks out past the front of the pic rail in order to provide better eye relief? Any problems with ejected casings hitting the optic and/or causing stovepipes?

I have a MM rail and MM full length mount. Just trying to figure out my optic options - lpvo or red dot + magnifier.

Thanks for any insight! 👍

Ive gotten maybe 5 stovepipes since I ran this set up, but at the same time I'm not entirely sure it's hitting the LVPO. there's no marks on it. I suspect the rounds are just clipping the rail even though I've rounded out the bottom a bit.

I also have a red dot + Magnifier on my 81SE. I personally think I like the LVPO more
