I was wondering what TYPE 81 owners think of the Iron Sights?

I'm considering Grabbing my Dremel 4000 and cutting off the metal rear sight bar.

I find it clutters up the sight picture, its also distracting and something unnecessary for my eye to focus on.
I don't think these sights were made for my eyes.

Before I do surgery....is there any function intended of the rear sight cross-bar?

SO please...Type 81 Owners....Any Thoughts? Concerns? Opinions? Advice?

Not an owner, but certainly wouldn't pay as mush for one that had been cut.

Its MY decision.... NOT yours... lol.

But in all seriousness it is your rifle.... it that is bothering you.... get out your zip disk.

Before you do anything, go put 100 rounds through it and ask yiurself if it was an issue or not. For me it was no issue.

Interesting comments so far...I will continue listening....and waiting for the SKS SHTF/Preppers/Mall Ninjas to chime in.

Oooh OOH.... I got it....

Mall Ninja - "well, you ned a holographic weapon sight with a magnifier to be able to engage tangos at over 700m"

Prepper - "It doesn't matter as long as you store it under at least two meters of dirt wrapped in vapor-barrier and used engine oil.... Oh and I have these tablets that will let me drink my own urine when there is no water"

SKS SHTF - "You should sell that POS and buy an SKS.... and enough ammo to learn to shoot it"

Mall Ninja - "The SKS has no optics option either, so you should buy the full length top rail and use at least 6-26 Mrad... Mrad is more accurate than MOA"

SKS SHTF - " My SKS is very accurate at 100 yards, I can hit a golf ball with iron sights... and I have a bayonet"

Mall Ninja - " you should remove the bayonet.... you can use the attachment lug to attach an M203 grenade launcher!"

Prepper - "you should mark it on BOTH a gps and map.... but make sure you burry that map and GPS separately... and don't mark them on each other"

Mall Ninja - "Make sure you train extra hard with the high cap... I mean the Standard capacity mags... you need to reload quick cause you gotta get in the fight!"

SKS SHTF - "I don't know why you bought a fancy SKS for five times the price.... It isn't a real AK!"

Prepper - " You guys wanna try my Pee?"

*So on and so forth*

As others have said "It is YOUR rifle!" . That being said the purpose of that bar is to be the rear sight for launching grenades. You line it up with the range mark on the flip up front sight that is on the grenade. Would I pay top dollar for one that has been cut? No! My advise, shoot it some more before you cut it! IMHO making the front sight a bit narrower would be a better thing! I have found the width of the front post to obscure the entire target even at close range.

The reason for that bar on type 81 is to protect the notch sight from scratch and lose of blue/paint. PLA soldiers complained that the top section of their sks and ak are often bright shiny after been carried so much that the bluing is all scraped off by the contact of their clothes etc. And making it hard to aim with light reflecting from the top section. To solve this they just added a bar to protect the rear sight.

I hated it so I cut it off.
Why would I want to get used to it if I don't like it? Like when people say some food is an acquired taste, that means it's yucky but if you eat enough of it your body will learn to tune it out. Kinda like a fart, smells like sh!t but that goes away even though if someone else walks by they can still smell it.

Much better without it. As you can see, I had one too many drinks before doing it and got a little carried away on the left side but it's not noticeable when looking through them.
I don't care about resale value.

I don't mind it that much, leaving both of mine as is. For me they are a fun gun and not a competition shooter, don't really have a reason to mod it. Having said that you paid for it, do what makes you happy.

After 500 rounds don't even notice it anymore.....actually didn't even notice it my first time shooting till a few people mentioned it on here

I put glow in the dark green paint on the front post. My eye no longer sees the bar it automatically focuses on the front sight.

These are limited run rifles. I’d avoid any perminant chopping. I will probably put an ak style side plate eventually tho

We shall see. I think that limited run crap is mostly hype.

Just so they can make people think they need to jump on the pre-sale or they won't get one. Full price is better for them.

Where are you finding glow in the dark paint? I used to have some a long time ago but can't find it any more :(
