Type 81 SR mods

I have some questions about this rifle.

- can you swap the furniture to the standard type 81 stock?
- can it use the standard 5/30 and 5 round drums?

I am thinking about buying one but I just want to run it like a regular t81 and not like a dragunov.
 
Furniture can't be swapped, you can use the drums and 5/30 mags. You want to run it more as a normal type 81, get the lmg from tactical imports. It even comes with a drum. Then you can swap out the stock or pistol grip, and there is replacement handguards available for sale online. You can take the carry handle and bipod off the lmg version as well.

Sigmaco has an AR buffer tube and pistol grip adapter so you can use AR stocks and grips. Murray 3 Bar D just announced an MLok piece that can be added to the handguard bottom, for the use of an MLok 1913 rail, bipod, or foregrip.
 
Has anyone tested the LMG and SR for accuracy? Is there a noticeable difference between the two? I'm in the same boat as the OP but I'd like to be able to put a handguard on whichever I get (LMG or SR) for a light and possibly bipod and the lack of options for the SR is pushing me towards the LMG.
 
SR vs stripped down LMG.... id say so far the accuracy is pretty much the same. The key factor being removing the bipod and cleaning rod from the LMG. The barrel mounted bipod most certainly messes with POI. The cleaning rod may or may not but i cant see how it could ever help with accuracy haha

Is the trigger any better on the SR (with the set screw or whatever)?
 
The trigger quality seems to differ more between individual Type 81s rather then a particular model. But the overtravel stop on the SR is a slight improvement.
 
i saw a sigmaco part to put a AR platform stock on the SR. as for me, i really like the thumbhole stock.
