Which one would you guys go for? I've heard mixed reviews about both. I'm very familiar with the Mini 14's action, as i own an m14, m1 carbine, and a garand. Anything to be said about which one's better? I'm looking for a non-restricted .223.

I'm biased, but I'd say T97. I'm curious, what have you heard is wrong with the T97 besides the goofy mag release?

I've heard the standard mini 14's aren't very accurate.

will have both soon ,waiting for the type 97.i will tell you one thing though and this is just my view, i prefer the mini14 over the ar180b.had my hands on the 180b today and had a good session. i would not by one over a mini.a modded mini in my mind is better for me.this is sad to say because i have had a crush on the 180 for a long time!but it was not right for me.looking forward to the type 97.

T97
had a mini and sold it for a M14
now im awaiting my 97...has a more anti liberal look  and takes the
10 rounder

Where have you heard mixed reviews about both?

I have heard lots of good about the Norinco Type 97A (except from the people who have a hate on for Norinco with non-supported points of view):stirthepot2: (My Norcs are all great)

The Mini 14 I have heard the old ones suck and the new ones CAN be good. My cousin has a target model in stainless that we will be making up some loads and trying to tune in with the barrel tuner/load that works combination. With Winchester Whitebox 55gr 223 it shoots...o...k... maybe 5 inch groups at 100m

I will do a review with a few loads and different manufactures ammuntion once I get my Type 97A, side by side with the Mini 14 Stainless Target if you want.

Personally (just an opinion) I don't like the look of the Mini 14, but hey we will see what kind of groups we can get, access brass damage, log FTF and FTE if any at all.

Semi-autos are fun regardless

I have an M14 I do not need a mini version of it, get the Type 97A and educated a liberal.

Sorry, didn't mean to say I've heard anything bad about the Type 97, just the fact that they're chinese. Don't get me wrong, I own a couple of norinco's but i try and stay away from them. I was just talking to a guy from this board last night, and he said that the type 97's don't even look chinese, and that they are very well made.

Have to agree with you on that.

Had my hands on all the 97's days after they arrived @ Lever Arms and was handling them all for nearly an hour.

WOW is all I gotta say. I love the gun. I have to say I found it extremely balanced, in both short and long barrel, about as balanced as Ken from Hunters Tavor I handled.

No stickyness/burrs in the action or rails the the bolt slides on, all operated very very well.

Having used Mini-14's since I was a kid, hell I got nothing but praise for them, provided you USE the gun for its intended use.

It's a ranch gun meant for blasting coyotes that are trying to eat your chickens! That's all it is so everyone who complains about accuracy, F OFF. :p

Same for the Mini-30, .223, 6.8 or 7.62x39, it's a farm gun, not a target rifle, buy the target model if you wanna go on bout accuracy.

Now for some comparison, the Mini's I've used all eject out the top to the right an forward 2-4 feet, how is the ejection on the 97A?

I'm a lefty so I need to know how the spent brass ejects. Anyone have any left hand input on the 97?

White box is total junk, the UMC is IMHO quite a bit better. Try some UMC and see if there is a difference.
