Type-97?

Why are all the Type-97 threads closed?
Should we all just give up hope?

I don't want to go out and buy another non restricted .223 and then have the RCMP BS get cleared up a month later.

Update status please or at least tell me where I can look into it myself.
I know these things take time but this is getting rediculous.

I might have to make another ammo purchase soon so I have an excuse to order another T-shirt:D

Thanks

I gave up a month ago and used my deposit for some optics.

But at least Norinco could make a version that isn't so easy to "easily convert."

I don't think it's Norinco's fault. The type 88 shares the same action and it's non-restricted.

RCMP's decisions are arbitrary and not based on facts. These are the same people who thinks the M&P 15-22 has an AR action.

it is still winding through the courts. This stuff takes years.

It is likely a new batch will be made before this gets sorted out.

Don't lump the Type 88 in this, as no full-auto versions have ever been produced -- for the PLA or export.

The 97 from CanAm is being based off of the qbz-95, which has full auto capability. I can't comment what is or isn't shared between the 95 and the export version 97, but the 88 is completely separate.. with the only difference between the 88 and 97a (export) version being the 5.8mm vs the 5.56.

I would love to own one of these, but until it hits the courts and passes I wont invest.

Then there won't be any left and i still won't have one.

Damned if I do, damned if I don't.

improved controls?

I recall a video detailing a new and improved type 95 where the controls were situated above the grip, much like an AR-15.

I'll try to find it, or at least some pictures taken from it.

EDIT: Apparently, it's called the Type95G.

damn that thing is fugly ;) sorry guys no hate, just not my cup of juice. hope you all get yours !!

Anyone who is interested in ever getting their hands on one should pre-order to show support getting it into Canada.
If it never gets the approval I'm sure CanAm will let you spend your deposit on other products they carry.
I've wanted one since the first time I saw one on the internet and have bought 2 other bullpups since then and just love them. I can't wait to add this one to the collection.

I need another non restricted .223! I sold my AR180-B and now only have my AR's.

Come on RCMP, how about a little cooperation? We aren't criminals. We just want some cool stuff to play with:)

I promise I will never try to make it full auto no matter how easy you think it is.

Just to clarify the matter, the type 88 (actually the export version is the KBU 97A) cannot easily be converted; as with most other rifle designed as semi-autos only, it will require tools, specialized knowledge and time to accomplish. The rifle was never designed to fire fully automatic given its usage as a dedicated marksman rifle.

I have not seen the internals for the rifle in question; but, based on Norinco's past designs, I can see why the rulings stand. Norinco designs are typically elegant in their simplicity and ease of manufacture and designed for full auto use. This means many of the necessary safeguards are not included to keep them semi-auto only.

I don't know if the Canadian firearms market is large enough for them to develop a semi-auto only action which bares no resemblance to the full-auto version. I suspect this is the only thing that will satisfy the current legal criteria.

As for placing orders, I think we are better of lobbying our elected officials to put their weight behind removing some of the contradictory legislation and get some common sense back into our laws.

Example. I can buy a KEL-TEC RFB which is a bull pup and has a 18.6" barrel as a non-restricted rifle but I cannot take an M-14 with a 24" barrel and make a bull-pup stock for it. In every respect the M14 would be much larger than the KEL-TEC and of the same caliber but still not legal. Go figure.

I want one. They're so ugly they're cool looking, and I'm sure they're enjoyable to shoot. Hopefully we can get a new batch or the RCMP chills the hell out. Either way, sign me up.

The big question is: Is there actually going to be a T97 (that can't be easily converted) that makes it way here for sale? I'd love to see it having had a preorder in for a couple years now...I see that it's on CanAm's new website...dare I hope?
