Hi all, I'm new to CGN forum, hope I'm not breaking any rules here by asking where to find a rifle. Anyway, very fortunate to have recently received a family air loom from my extended American family, that being the subject rifle. It was brought back from one of the home islands after V-J day and started out as a standard series 31 short rifle with the mum ground off. Nothing special so far. It sat in my great uncle's open car port in Florida for 30 years when another uncle decided that he, another gunsmith and a German master engraver should give it the treatment and created a truely magnificent sporter. They shortened the barel to 24", restocked it, cut off the bolt handle replacing it with one turned down, fit a steel receiver sight and also fitted a pleasing ramp/fore sight. Then it was turned over to the engraver and tastefully received some oak leaves and other scrolling. Many of the original stamped parts were retained although were 'softened' and highly polished. I've started the registration process with the CFC as well as the importation process (talk about a deterant for doing things right) but still don't have the rifle (hence no pics). Where I'm going with this is that the rifle has been so extensively transformed (the optimy of a silk purse from a sows ear) that it is difficult to imagine how she looked before the transformation process, so much so that I am looking for a nice example of what it started out as for a reference. Preferably something early war, pre last ditch. I'm an Ontario guy, does anyone have any idea where such an animal may be found. Thanks,

1940 Type 99..not mine, wish it was :(

If you're looking to buy one, check the EE. They aren't very common, though.

Thanks for the response, I presume by EE you mean Ellwood Epps. I do check their site daily (mostly for pre 64 M70s and the like) as well as several others and as you indicated, the 7.7s are not common as the 6.5s. Most dealers or stores will not take them in as public interest (including my own until recently) is rather low. No disrespect to the Arisakas, they have a reputation for being strong and incorporated may advanced features for the day such as heat treatment and the use of chrome lined bores and progressive rifling etc. I guess time spent on fit and finish was less important. Yes, I am also aware there was a war going on, and by the time the bulk of the type 99s where produced, things were not going well for the Japanese. Anyway thanks, I will keep looking.

Nope, not Elwood :D It's the Equipment Exchange section of CGN, where people buy and sell firearms (and other things)

This is how you get access

1. Go to your UserCP,
2. Click on Group Membership,
3. Select Join Group for Equipment Exchange Users Group and,
4. Click Send.

But I do suggest reading the rules, scroll down

If you are looking for arisaka info the surplusrifleforum .com has a very nice arisaka section with some great and all knowing mods.

Looks like this one has it all, dust cover, monopod, AA sights, bayonet...and hopefully the MUM intact:) Nice rifle!
