Typhoon F12 or the Derya MK-12 ... pros and cons ... which one to buy?

Semi auto's that only partially cycle can usually be diagnosed as having something binding or under gassed. The Typhoon uses O rings in its gas system. If the tube is not properly cleaned of factory oils or is missing an O ring, it could easily exhibit this problem. No one should shoot a gun like this right out of the box without a cleaning first and examining the system. How else would you know if the gas piston is set up for the correct loads ?

Where is this O-ring?

Where is this O-ring?

In the manual they call it the gas system. I call it a gas cylinder but there is probably a better name. It is the part that you face one way or the other depending if you have light loads or heavy loads. There is writing on the cylinder to tell you which way to install it. It has two O rings inside. Guys in the UK who compete with these guns get thousands of rounds before replacement but if they get too dirty, that would shorten their life . Excess oil attracts grime from gasses and dirt on these pieces.

Just my 2 cents I now own a Derya MK12 and my buddy just bought a Typhoon F12.

1. First the Derya is easier to field strip for cleaning.

2. The Derya recoils into the stock while the F12 has all the guts including spring up front.

3. The Deyra takes Benalli/Beretta Mobil chokes so any Carlson choke fits it. The F12 has its own type of choke system and the attractive flash suppressor/muzzle break won't attach if you use one of the supplied chokes. My buddy is a little p**sed off about that because it will loose its cool look. I have a Carlson Benalli rifled choke tube that fits mine like a glove but my buddy is left in the lurch so to speak.

4. Yes it took about 100 heavy loads to break in my Derya but my buddy yesterday wasn't having much luck with target loads (he was shooting it for the first time) BUT after some heavy loads (less than the Derya) it began to cycle with light loads.

5. The F12 appears to feel heavier than the Derya.

6. All mags are interchangeable.

7. I would recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing either a Derya or Typhoon to take a close look at both, possibly even get a chance to fire each and then make a decision. I think all those Turkish shotgun manufacturers are housed in the same building and you just walk through adjoining doors.

Either one appears to be quality built for the money.
