Well all of the ones I've handled have had some hair of side to side play in the cylinder at rest and lockup. Got informed at the range today that this isn't normal and signs of a GP100 needing tuning.

So are these things supposed to lock up like a vault or is some play within manufactured spec? I just thought this was normal lockup for the cylinder.

See this is what I thought but chose not to argue. Been that way with every GP100 I've handled.

You sir need to handle a well timed Python at shot ;). No wobble what so ever prior to trigger reset.
yeah they do, every one i've ever handled. Not as much as a stock gun, but they all have play.

The only revolvers I've used that don't have any motion on lockup are Colts. I have a ancient Colt Police Positive in 38 s&w that still locks up completely tight, with no wobble.
