I have a Remington 03/a3 rifle..made in Sept 43.....how many CGN's have 1903/a3 rifles...either Remington.or Smith-Corona rifles...???

I really like my Remington 03/a3....sure its not as finely made as the Springfield 03.....mine has some tooling marks on the barrel....lathe operator in a hurry perhaps....but its a accurate weapon..love the aperature sight that is adjustable for elevation and windage.....never did under understand why no front sight guard like the Lee Enfield or U.S. Model 1917..

Very smooth bolt ....with fast clipper strip loading....

I have a rather nice Smith Corona. And yes, they were issued with a sight cover. A lot of them are missing these days though.

Not my thing but I came by one in a trade recently. Lovely rifle. Mine does not have the front sight cover. Marked "Rock Island Arsenal" with flaming bomb and 9-42 and "SA" on the barrel just back from the front sight. I should try to find the sight cover as it looks naked without one. Metal in A1 shape. Small sliver of wood missing from forend of stock. Dave
PS - mine doesn't have the receiver sight but rather a sight mounted on the barrel like the No.1 Mk.3 Lee Enfield. Rifle is outside the serial number range which had heat treat problems.

I am engaged in the debubbafication of a '43 SC. Because it was previously drilled and tapped, I am rebuilding it to simulate a 03A4, with Weaver 330.
There is a 03A3 in Bancroft which is about as nice as Claven2's. I have reports of another, but appartently something has been done to it.

tiriaq, how much do you have left to do on that rifle?

Here's mine. Metal is in great shape, stock has definitely seen a lot of use. Needs a mag floorplate (someone painted it black) and a new rear sight. Those items are low on my list of things to do though, I still have 15 rifles to clean! :p

I really need to get some software so I can crop my carpet out of these pictures...

A new rear sight leaf, stripped, lists in the $10 -$20 range. Incidentally, you know that bayonets like yours don't grow on trees.
For my project I need a safety, trigger and sear, and all the stock related hardware. Thought I had everything ordered from Gun Parts Corp. by fax, but no word yet, or response to my query about the status of my order.
Once I've got it together, I'll sell the Timney trigger, and altered bolt sleeve with low scope safety that were on it.
I forget what stage it was in when you were here.

I really like the pistol grip stock on your 1903,...makes for one hell of a nice looking rifle.....thats the rifle the U.S. Marines used on Guadacanal...and they used their bayonets too..!

I've got a sight leaf in my shopping cart at Numrich but I have to check a few other things and see if I need to order them in order to make shipping worthwhile. :) Plus it shoots ok using the battle sights for now. I still have to clean the old canvas sling, and I'm going to give my new steam cleaner a shot and see how it does on fabric.

when I saw it you had just got the stock and had the rifle disassembled.

"...a sight mounted on the barrel..." That makes it a 1903. What's the serial number and make? Springfield or Rock Island? SA S/N's under 800,000 and RI S/N's under 285,507 are not considered safe to shoot. Has to do with the factory heat treating. Remington made '03's are not affected by this.
Mine's an original 1903A4. It loves 168 grain match bullets with IMR4064.

nice 03's guys. I've been chasing one for awhile, but the right piece hasn't come up yet. A little olive oil would make that sling look just right, claven. Gorgeous rifle!

Springfields

I have 8 or 10 Springfields 03's, 03 A3's, and 1922 M2 in my collection. One of my Remington 03 A3's is new, came with grenade launcher and sights.

I am trying to restore a Springfield 03 but need a complete rear sight assembly (base & sight). Or an 03 barrel with sights. I have the wood and all the metal and am going to sell a spare 03 receiver that is drilled and tapped.

I am also looking for a C stock (full pistol grip) for one of my 03's

Gun Part Corp., Northridge International might be able to help with the sight set that you need. A nice 03 barrel with sights would not be inexpensive. Even 2 groove 03A3 barrels have gone up dramatically.
If the Ottawa Citizen version of the Registry is to be believed (a lot of Springfields may not be correctly identified) Springfield rifles are not common at all in Canada.

Keep an eye on ebay. Someone sold a huge lot of 03 parts (6-8 complete rear sights, triggers, floorplates, barrel bands, all kinds of bits and pieces). I wanted to buy it but I didn't have any money at the time. I think whoever bought it sorted the parts and sold them in smaller lots. Again, I was going to get a rear sight and floorplate but was broke at the time :(
