U.S.M.C. Scout Sniper Special Issued Comemerative 1966 M40

I haven’t seen one up here but I’m sure they are around they made a bunch.

I think the US price shown is fair value. It’s a clone type rifle newly manufactured by Remington back in the mid 2000’s so it doesn’t bring much more than that. The scope is a new reproduction of the old green Redfields made by Leupold. I had the chance to get one a few years back ( the scope I mean ) for about $900 USD but I don’t have a build of that vintage so I passed. They show up on eBay from time to time.

They’re kind a niche scope and rifle that few people appreciate enough to pay much more than that especially up here.

The scope base and rings were available from Badger Ordnance who made them for these commemorative re issue rifles.

There was a place called Texas Brigade Armory that made M40s in any era. They are in the US, so you'd have to deal with the border.

You might even get in touch with Nick at Vulcan Gun Refinishing in Ontario. He's been doing some WWii sniper rifles lately. He'd probably do an M40 if you want. You can trust him to do a nice job.

Thanks all.

I have lot to consider.

I'm amazed the original repro, that Remington did for the U.S.M.C. Scout/Sniper Association is going for $3500 - $4500 U.S.

So I will have to consider getting one made I guess. You Fella's might benefit, as I may have to sell one of my M24 SWS. Or possibly keep the M24 and sell a kidney LOL.

Again thanks

If you can get a stock that is close, the rest isn’t too hard to hobble together for something that’s pretty close but not OCD level detail correct.

Start with an old parkerized Rem 700 PSS in 308, get the base and rings from BO and an old Redfield 3-9 and a M1 Garand web sling and it’s pretty darn close appearance wise. The stock is probably the hardest part but some people will find an old Remington stock without the fore end cap, and de-checker it.

If you want 100% correct even the re issue rifles like the one referenced aren’t perfect so pick the level of detail that you’re seeking.

I went with Remington 40x repeaters in 223 and 7.62x51 and McMillan stocks
Took a long time to get the barreled actions from Remington and McMillan did the stocks
to take the Winchester trigger guards etc
Back when I did it, Remington did one he'll of a job to make it work

I imported a couple of the M40 repos done for the SSA, almost 5K ea by the time I was all done and that was without a scope
