U.S. - S. Korea M1 Garand deal officially falls through

King Obama killed it several years ago. Even if he had kept his left wing nose out of it, it would have been a tragedy if Century got a hold of them.

Well Obama should cancel the CMP Program and got all those dangerous military grade hardware off the streets too.

Oh wait, if you go to the CMP website no Garands or M1 Carbines are for sale anymore either, and no orders accepted.:(

Local gun shop had a bunch of WWII surplus M1 Garands in on consignment from an estate. Most recently the last batch, now all gone of course, were going for $1,500 + taxes. Couple times at least guys called in or were in the shop lamenting at where Garand prices had gone for nice examples. At least one guy said "you'll all be sorry when the shipment of surplus ones gets here from Korea" and they are going for $500 again.

Guess not.

I thought that was kind of an odd thing to say - I'm betting the Koreans don't have any C Broad Arrow Garands in excellent plus condition

OMG - 10K posts, I really need to get a life

The funny thing is I scored that SA M1 with the C broad arrow stamped stock without the shop owners even having noticed it was there. I'm told that particular one would've been priced a lot higher had it been noticed...lol...

This is the new face of gun control in America and after Moncton over the last few days, you'll see similar trends in Canada even under the conservatives. Then when the Cons lose the election next year, you'll see Canada move towards the Australian model of single shot rifles only. People will be grandfathered in with semi-auto's and may even be permitted to use them for a number of years at approved ranges, but eventually all that will come to and end too.

Honestly, I know many will hate me for saying it, but we would all adapt. It certainly would make you take careful aim during competitions and while hunting.

Sorry, but you need to drop the 'I give up' attitude. And if you do a little research on Austrailian gun control you'll find out they have far more than single shots. Semi autos aren't even on full ban, it seems you can still acquire one under certain circumstances for predator/varmint control.

Anyway, the Garands again....this has been dragging out awhile. Dealers were hinting that we might get a crack at them, I guess Century has had them tied up hoping to bypass sh$&@y legislation. Can't blame them, not many other legitimate markets to sell them to anymore, even rough, shoot able Garands in those numbers would over saturate our market and likely drop pricing to the point where they can't turn a profit.

Yes they can still get Semi-auto rifles and have no mag restrictions either - h ttp://usedguns.com.au/Product.aspx?p=33213

The Canadian market became saturated with the Garands that came in from Denmark in the 1990s, so much so that they wound up being flogged for as little as $150 a pop with the majority being torn down and sold as parts kits in the US market. Assuming that they aren't smelted, this may well be what happens with the Korean and Pilipino Garands.

The Koreans disposed of a large qty of Garands on the US market in the pre-Clinton years. These were is fairly rough shape. The usual pattern is that countries will dispose of their junk first, keeping the best for last, so chances are that these rifles are in pretty good shape. While it is nice to believe that these might wind up in Canada, I personally doubt it.
