Uberti double detended cylinder pin

I found out on an earlier thread that the two detents on my Uberti cattleman's cylinder pin are a recent modification to satisfy export requirements. It would appear that the revolver can only fire when the pin is set on the rearmost detent, the one further forward acting as some sort of safety, by pushing the pin into the hammer and not allowing it to fall completely. I am new to single action revolvers, but not new to shooting and I find this double detent thing annoying. Do people usually turn new pins for these revolvers? Is cutting the pin down a possible fix? I'm not a gunsmith and would not do this myself anyway, just wondering about options.

Just shorten the pin by cutting or grinding it off at the hammer end. The amount to take off varies, but put the pin in the gun using the outer indent. The hammer end will stick out a little to keep the hammer from falling all the way. However much it is sticking out, is the amount you cut off. Nobody uses that as a safety anyway. Load one, skip one and load 4 more gives you an empty chamber under the hammer for safety.

Thanks for the great info. I will probably send it in to be done rather than risk a bubba job and/or an insufficiantly supported cylinder. I imagine it will not be a costly job. I look forward to being rid of that silly problem.
