Hey folks,

I have been looking for a Uberti repro 1858 New Model Army and can't seem to find one anywhere. In my dream world I would like to own both the cap and ball, and the 44 mag version. Anyone seen these around anywhere?

Good choice. Cap and ball is the way to go. I own an Uberti. I have had issues with it. It prefers remington caps. When you find one, make sure the little screw in the handle that pushes against the mainspring is in all of the way. Then it fires with almost any cap.

I have been shooting mine for about three years. It is my gun of choice. My brother has a Pedersoli, same New Army Model. His works flawlessly.

Be prepared to do a lot of talking and showing at the range. Everyone loves the looks and feel of it.

44 Magnum variant of the Remington 1858?

Never heard of one actually. Thought I've personally seen brand new 44 Special or 45 LC/Schofield versions though. Cimarron Arms IIRC.

Edit: Maybe something modern but based on the 1875 Remington frame would provide enough strength for something like 357 magnum??

Oh - when you finally get your pistol...there is this fat old guy (not me, but you would be correct to suspect it) - that is completely nuts about percussion revolvers. His name is 'Duelist 54' or something like that...and he has all kinds of simple mods and enhancements you can do right at home to slick up your pistol. It is my scholarly conviction that his vids should be mandatory viewing for any aspiring black powder gun nut. When I retire I am seriously going to consider retiring my smokeless guns!!! :)

I sincerely hope I don't have to rebuke any of you for using the unmanly black powder substitutes...? Always use the Holy Black, boys. The Gun Gods will humiliate and confound you if you don't!

That's "duelist1954". It's the forum name for a fellow named Mike Bellievue. If you search for that name on You Tube you'll find a bunch of his videos.

He recently moved to posting his videos at full30.com . Add the usual w's for the full address.

The proper cartridge companion to the 1858 would be the 1875 with the web that makes them look so similar. But these only come in .45Colt and one model in .357Mag. Nothing in .44Mag.
