Hey Guy's !!!

I was considering to buy a scout mount for my M305. And Im still balancing between a Ultimak M8 and a M14.ca SHG.

The average 100$ difference and the weight are my two major concern.

Do you guy's have any advice for me ???

THX

Here are a few notes to consider that are not available on the original product description page.

1. our compression methodology and proprietary bracket design ensures a secure, uniform fitment to m14/m1a barrels that may vary in dimension - think of our bracket design "strapping" the barrel, as opposed to "bracketing" it.

2. We use a total of 14 fasteners and 3 proprietary steel barrel "straps" to deliver perfect fitment of rail to barrel (in our opinion, other products do not employ the same standard of precision).

3. the SHG is as low as the top forward receiver flat at the barrel ring, yet it still has an opening at the side for 10 and 2 o'clock 4" picatinny rails for optics or otherwise

4. Blackfeather customers are afforded a a significantly stronger connection of rail to rifle (a fourth leg if you will) due to the fact that the rail is inletted precisely for the Blackfeather RS's adjustable oprod guide

5. The M14.ca SHG is approximately 3.55oz. lighter than any competing, ultra low aluminum rail systems (all components included in weight comparison).

Tagged for interest. I've only seen possibly one review on the M14.ca SHG such to say a short but positive history on it. Ultimak has a solid reputation of being the defacto scout rail that also stiffens the barrel. (There are light weight scout mounts that aren't barrel stiffening systems and there are also heavy stiffening systems like the Amega Ranges handguard that is probably more solid but significantly heavier).

I have used both extensively... there is nothing wrong with the M8, it's great, however the SHG does the
same job with less of a weight penalty. I sold both of my M8s and kept the SHG... I just wish mine was black.

Ultimak isn't using every thread possible to push their products. Go with them.

I'm stoked on my M8, it took a bit of tweaking to get it setup in a way I'm happy with but that had everything to do with the gun I mounted it on and nothing to do with the rail itself.

They are also not sponsors or Canadian. I wish they were here telling us of their upcoming products but they are not.

What he said!

I for one like that he comes and promotes is product and interacts with us! For Pete's sake he made me buy a t97!

There is a difference between marketing and promotion for your products, and ramming it into every single thread that may or may not mention the idea of an m14. I'd love to support Canadian but I'm not into the pushy used car saleman marketing approach. There's something to be said for letting your products speak for themselves.

That being said, can anyone who has used both tell me which rail sits lower between the two?

You're not the only one that complains about it either.

I actually like the m14.ca SHG, but if I ever went that route I too would go Ultimak because I hate m14.ca's pushy advertising. Shame, they have some fascinating products.

I'm all for supporting Canadian, when it makes sense. Ultimak has had their scout rail out for awhile,I can't think of any rail before theirs they would have had sitting on the bench during the design process. I do applaud M14.ca,s constant first-three-post-PowerPoint-pushing, though.

I put an M8 on my shorty and really like it . Some of the material on the Ultimak had to be removed as the barrel profile is different compared to the 22 inch versions .
It was an easy fix though .

The lighter colored area is where material was removed to get my Shorty to fit correctly.

This clamp has to sit flush as shown in the pic .( 50calshooter supplied the pic but he is gone now )
