I remember seeing one of these at a local Military Museum about 25 years ago and have been on the hunt for one ever since. Well a friend stumbled on one recently and let me have it for a reasonable price (thanks Doug!)

For now installed to highlight the marking.
And a few pics of the rest of the rifle:

And yes the serial number has been confirmed in Klanchers and Phillips book and on the Lever Arms invoice.
Just thought I'd share.

Would love to find one for my MP rifle!Nice find.

Someone should start a serial # listing of these rifles to see how many are still around.

Yeah if it would stand for Military Police I would've told you to burn it and chuck the rest in the ocean! ;)

Definitely a neat addition to your rifle!

A handful of decades back our local detachment had two no 4 rifles. One had the woven sling and the other had a leather sling similar to those found on no4T rifles

That would be interesting. It would also be interesting to document the MP marking as well. I've seen a couple of variations and it would be nice to have a reference for rifles who's serial number isn't found in Klancher and Phillips book.

And the Army/CF wouldn't stamp the metal to mark it for a particular arm of service, Corps or Regiment, it is too likely that they would want to withdraw it from one unit and issue it to another.

One might reasonably conclude that but in the case of these rifles it's well documented that it stands for Mounted Police.

My high browns are stamped MP after I had the leather shop do work on them. It's still used to 'mark' our stuff.

Ditto on the sling. And I have two of my own, one bought for a friend I wish I would have kept. I've only seen 4 of them for sale myself, and I bought 3. At least my wife understands. But she'd rather I spend a grand on a historical rifle than 500 on a new fangled tactical thing. Weird but ok with me.
