I'm seeing many SXS and Over/Under guns with 9,12,13".

Do these guns have any real world use other than a big fireball at dusk ?

Fun guns for casual shoots, compact, less weight, some applications for animal defence and grouse hunting (12.5" limit in B.C. for hunting) not ideal for duck hunting or Olympic competition.

Simple answer, Yes they have a use.. longer answer , not for everyone and if you have to ask, probably not for you...... :)

Personally I prefer a .22lr or airgun for grouse, but some people like shotguns and I'm fine with people making their own choices and enjoying what works for them.

I imagine some people even find them kind of cool, I don't worry about it too much as I figure the more people enjoying guns the better and I don't have the inclination towards being a gun snob or bigot..... I like them all!

There's this! I guess it's impossible for even a guy who owns the 'compete' books to have seen every Gary Larson cartoon, or at least to remember them all. Got this via Facebook and I would swear...

Perfect for such a situation! And incase the guy asking for spare armadillos gets physical.

I plan on doing a bunch of different testing with the sulun ss221 with 10inch threaded barrel to see just what it can do.

I have a 12.5" barrel for my 870 that comes in very handy when I'm wearing a backpack with a carrying system. It fits perfectly with my welfare-gunbearer system which makes it very handy to keep at hand, or when placed muzzle-down in the rope pouch of my Arc'teryx Bora 30 pack. This was more important when I was in the North but still worth considering when in the bush down south. Another nice option for a shot barreled shotgun is a Model 12 with a 19" barrel which leaves the gun in two equally-sized pieced. If you don't mind the gun being broken down then this is a wonderfully packable option. But if you want something short and handy then the short pump is a great way to go.

I like the short barrels for rabbit hunting after deer season. They're much easier to carry through the thick alders and spruce and generally you're getting a standing still shot so no wingshooting required.

I use a Stoger Coachgun for rabbits , I like the versatility if changing out chokes and it seems just right to hunt with that kind of gun.
Might be a bit big for what some people are posting

Even as a young punk looking for sh!ts and giggles I wouldn't have wanted one. I could easily imagine becoming disenamored with it quite quickly.

As long as you wear hearing protection...

Often had a 8.5" Grizzly in the shooting bag... We'd be trying to shoot some 22lr bullseye target (on a pretty much empty indoor range) when some guy with magnum would somehow decide to shoot in the next bay.
- That's when th Grizzly and 3" buckshots would come out... :)

For the longest time, had a secret crush for a 6.5" mag fed...

As a real young punk I wanted to be a pirate, so short barreled double straight bore guns were attractive from an early age..... I regret not picking up a Howdah Hunter before hell froze over.
