Guys -

A recently deleted thread came to my attention today. The behaviour of several members of this forum in that thread was, to be kind, somewhat embarassing.

We don't tend to mod this forum as much as other forums. It's expected that folks around here can disagree, even somewhat heatedly, and still keep it civil.

I'm disappointed to see that wasn't the case. I'm sure many of the folks who use this forum would agree that this is a place for discussion, not for attacking each other.

SO - a reminder on some of the rules and policies. Those who have trouble living with them will likely earn themselves a time out. I think they're pretty reasonable, and expect that people can follow them without a mod looking over their shoulder every minute of every day.

1 - NO PERSONAL ATTACKS!!!! - You can disagree with someone without attacking them. Attack the argument, not the person.

2 - That ESPECIALLY MEANS no attacking people because of how they hunt. You CAN ABSOLUTELY say "i don't like to hunt that way" or "i don't feel that's a good way to hunt" - but crap like "people who hunt by ###x are not hunters and are in fact devil-spawn" is unacceptible. RESPECT OTHERS METHODS - even if you can't agree with them.

3 - If you have a problem with someone - LET A MOD KNOW!!! That means ME or MADDOG. WE will deal with it, and if someone is being a dink, we will un-dink 'em fast enough. Do NOT take it upon yourself to 'settle the score' by turning a thread into a mud-fest.

4- Avoid thread hijacks. Whatever the thread is about - that's what it's about. Don't turn people's bear-hunt story into a debate about baiting. If you want to discuss something else - START A NEW THREAD.

and finally ..

SHOW SOME BASIC RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER IN GENERAL! Talk like your mother is in the room. Or better yet - like MY mother is in the room. Newbies are going to make erroneous or stupid statements - we ALL did at one time or another even if it wasn't on the net, and we ALL had to learn, so deal with it. Someone somewhere will have a different experience than yours - learn to accept it. Ethics are NOT the same across the country - they are adapted to the conditions prevelant in a region. Cope with it or don't post.

I realize that disagreeing with each other is part of the great hunting tradition of our land. Its fun, and sometimes it's heated. But - do NOT let that get to the point where we start disrespecting each other.

Give it a good read boys - it's rules to live by, especially in this forum. The tolerance level for some of the nonesense that's gone on is very low right now.

Pick it up a notch - share information, dont' just bash other's ideas.

Thanks for listening.

Appartently I missed something.....

Well i dont want to discuss any particular thread in the past and point fingers - i just want to spell out what we expect of people in the future.

Haha, I told you guys to get into the eggnog but didn't think you'd post after you did!

What a friggan day, made a few p.m.'s and did some editing to keep the calm but you guys still stirred the pot.

Foxer's right, we don't mod this like the other guys do, we let things work themselves out by themselves cause you guys tend to find a common ground after a heated debate. That being said, lets try to keep things civil around here in the holiday season so I don't have to worry about you peons!;)

Isn't there anything we could be out hunting besides cats????:D

Be good and have a Merry Christmas guys!:)

I gotta say that Maddog and Foxr re good mods here..they let the Hunitng sections of CGN get into some serious debate, let us sling abit of poo from time to time, are not exceptionally intrusive in the debate and are generally pretty *relaxed*- far more so than alot of other secitons of this website, by the way.

That has been the tone of the hunting sections since day one, and it's been good.

Recently, I made a comment that attacked the person, and not the argument, which broke th board rules as well as my own personal rules (I find it way more effective to attack the argument rather than calling someone an idiot) and foxer slapped my bum. (Ok, it turned me on, but just a bit;) )

Anyway, it's up to *US* to respect the tone set here, and not act liek kids that need excessive moderation. Heated debate is good, persopal attacks are not- easy enough to understand, rigth?

Merry Christmas.:dancingbanana:

I wish it wasn't deleted, I was hoping to see if anybody knew where to get the box set cheaper if thats what the mods are talking about.

People almost always attack other people when they don't agree with them. I mean it's not nice but it still happens all the time
