Unaligned sights???

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 1944 lee enfield no.4 mk1 * longbranch made. The rifle is simply beautiful, everything works fine and I was very satisfied. But when I looked through the sights it seems that they are not aligned. It seems to me that the front post is not aligned with the receiver. Since it's a part of the barrel and don't really know what to do.

I didn't shoot the rifle yet so I can't tell you if it is accurate or not.

The front sight insert can be adjusted to zero the rifle if the rifle shoots left or right of your aiming point.

There should be a specially shaped screw at the front of the sight base angling slightly upwards (It should be blade shaped). A special tool was needed to loosen the screw, but you can make one by finding a screw driver with a shank diameter the same as the screw. Cut the end off the screw driver so just the shank is left, and round the edge slightly. Now, carefully file a notch in the end of the shank that corresponds to the same width as the blade shaped protrusion on the screw. Test fit as neccessary. Once finished, you should be able to loosen the screw and move the front sight insert left or right as needed.

Shoot it first. If you can produce a five shot group of not more than 4 inches at 100 yards it is within the design spec. for accuracy and then you should adjust the sights for zero if necessary.

I am going to take a stab at assuming the barrel was replaced and is torqued more or less than it should be. Measure the angle the sights are canted off to.

In the case that the sights are angled off (you can easily tell where the barrel is mated to the reciever -the flats of the barrel arent level with the horizon), take the gun to a qualified gunsmith to get the barrel to the proper position as well as to check headspace. If the barrel is on their too loose it may not be good to fire.
