Uncocking hammerless double barrel.

If you have double triggers, open the action all the way and hold it in the fully open position, hold both triggers down and slowly let the action close.

If it's a single trigger, there's no real way to decock without dry firing the gun.

Why worry about uncocking the firearm? Put it away unloaded and don't worry about it. The "myth" of the springs etc. wearing out because of the firearm being left in a "cocked" state is just that, a myth. Same as leaving a magazine loaded, no problem.

Modern springs can be kept under compression without noticeable problems.
Older guns(older metallurgy) may not withstand the constant compression.

I was told that springs will not break from being in the compressed state. They break during the actual working process, which in this case would be pulling the triggers or cocking the gun.
