Uncrimping factory-loaded shotshells

In the great movie Pat Garret and Billy the Kid, Billly has been captured by the law. A deputy has told him that he has loaded his shotgun with dimes, and hopes Billy will try an escape, so he can shoot him with the dimes.

Billy of course escapes, and shoots the deputy with his own shotgun, killing him with the dimes.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to do this, as I don't see how dimes would be "more" lethal than buckshot.

Billy also says:

"Keep the change.". :D

Well Ryan, speaking of lead shot days, I would be happy shooting big mallards in the prairie grain fields with a 1¼ ounce load of #7½ shot in the 12 gauge.
Most duck hunters were glued to #4 shot. Maybe I would have been, also, if I had ever had a full choke 12 that made a descent pattern with #4, but I never had such a gun.
My preferred size for ducks was #6. Every full choke I had made good patterns with #6 and great patterns with #7½.
