under $2000 sniper system any ideas?

Sounds good, but I want to buy new.

Then I'd look at a new 700P with the best optics you can swing with the remainder of your budget. Can't beat the Rem for availability of aftermarket add ons when you want to build it up later and service is widely available.

Im not bothered with the optics yet. I can add those later, or having a piccatiny rail, cuz I can mount one of those myself with a tap and die set. I'll check out the 700p though, thanks. :)

700 p looks nice do you think I would have a hard time buying the barrel and action in Canada and then getting a mcmillan stock? Do they just slide in to most stocks, or would I need a gunsmith to fix the barrel and action into a mcmillan stock? I think the mcmillan stock looks better.

700P already comes with a good stock, the HS Precison is a very good stock, the McMillan may be better in ones mind and the HS in others, it is personal preference. I had a 700P but had it rebuilt by PGW. If you want an out of the box rifle, I would go with the Savage 10FP LE2B with the McMillan already on it as many have recommended. You will be hard pressed to get a McMillan to drop in, they are available, but it will take you a while and you will pay a good $$ for it. As for having a gunsmith marry it to you action, that is the way I would go. Give Rick at ATR a call or Ross and Steve a PGW if you are going to get a Remington and restock it. If you have your mind set on a Remington and want to restock it, there are two options that I would consider. The 700P, that will leave you with the HS to sell after your McMillan is on and recover some of the cost of the new stock, or, go with a 700VS, same action and barrel, but a wood stock, it is a little chaeper then the 700P which will alos help offest the cost of a new McMillan.

Tactical Rifle

What do you think about the Styer SSG 69's? I have a PII on my rack, are they still being imported into the country? I haven't heard much about them in ages. I like mine but haven't shot it in 5 years. I like the fact that I can shorten the stocks and it fits me like a glove. The Accuracy International for $800 or something like that sounds like a real bargain. I would have one of them in a minute. I have a friend that just got a 223 in a Savage with a Massive German barrel that he wants to sell. It has an accutrigger and a laminated stock, I have some pictures of it if anyone wants them. I believe there is a spare accutrigger.. I think he wants something like $950 or a $1000. The trigger is awesome and I think the barrel can be turned down if you don't like a one inch barrel. I don't know what the twist is but it wasn't shot enough to break it in. An old guy had it built a couple of years ago, and shot it a few times and that's it. He was in his late seventies when he sold it this year. I don't think he was in any sniper competitions or anything like that.
Send an e-mail to: a_maynard@rogers.com and ask for pictures of the Savage heavy barrel 223.
Thanks
Albayo

I am not certain I am spelling the Savage trigger name correctly.

Go with the Savage McMillan or Choate. It will take a custom barrel and an action job to beat the Savage, and that means a gunsmith which usually means a long wait time.
Most people say they like the McMillan but some say they hate the feel of the Choate. The Choate is good, just different.

The choice of optic would be more important than which tactical rifle it was on. Give Rick at ATR a call for a package, he may just have a Savage in stock.

No one has the FN SPR, FN USA does not export into Canada and FN Belgium will not ship them.

You would have to find a stocking dealer in the US and then use an Exporter to get it up to Canada.

They are a nice rifle but you can do just as good with the Savage and most likely for less$$$. HS Precision makes a good off the shelf, (so to speak). I picked one up and am very happy thus far.

We bring them in, we have a used PBR here on consignment for $800 right now. The SPR is $$$ though. Lowest priced model is $1999 so it might fit in your budget, but at the high end.

Go with a Savage 10FP McMillan, top it with a Bushnell 3200 10X tactical mounted with TPS 20MOA base and TPS rings and you wil still have enough money to buy a decent case, sling bi-pod and some ammo.

Well then, I guess I'll eat my last bit about no one having them in Canada. I called FN and asked where I could obtain one in Canada and they just laughed, then fed me the explantion that they do not export. No mention of TSE!!

I spoke with MD Charlton who use to list the FN series Police tactical rifles and they said the same thing.

Looked at importing one but by the time you get through all the red tape on the US side it was just easier to deal in Canada, which I much prefer to do anyways.

Oh, well.

Thanks for the update!
