Of course this thread regards the m14

Anyone found a good under rail for their stocks?

I know there is a Smith rail offering but why does it have to be 205$?
There is also a nice little dandy rail that comes with a grip (made by GG&G) offered @ DWP for 59,99US$, but I dont like that grip...

thanks, but not thanks, thats a bit to forwardy for me, it is intended for a grip.
Actually I just found out the GG&G UFIR grip can be purchased alone now from brownells with a big *new* icon.
I guess it is going to come in along nicely with the new magpul RSA :)

Ya Rob from Tartain Tactical also made these to. I wonder if he is still on this site or if anyone has heard from him lately?

daaaaaamn
** NOTES ** SIR: DUE TO DDTC RESTRICTIONSREGARDING THE NON-REGISTRATIONOF MANUFACTURERS, ITEM(S) HAVE BEENCANCELED FROM YOUR ORDER. THANK YOU.
Would've tought GG&G was in fact registered

Charles,

What may work for you is a generic tapered AR (rifle length)handguard rail. The taper works to keep the rail parallel obviously, as standard AR handguards are tapered, as is the underside of the M14.

yep that is what I ordered and was canceled (GG&G's UFIR), I am looking for an equivalent and found falcon industries and yankee hill machine co to have ressembling parts.
Not any type of tapered handguard rail will work (I think), it will need a little height, otherwise the weaver slots are too close to the stock to mount anything.

This is what I'll be looking at:
Elevated Rails for Customizable Forearm System
These taller rails are 3/8” tall to offer more clearance. Made from aircraft quality aluminum and hardcoated to Mil. Specs. These rails come in 5 different sizes to accomodate your specific shooting needs. Made in standard picatinny configuration. Mounting screws included. These rails will not co-witness with a flat top upper receiver.

Yankee Hill also offers this, which would be unsuitable as I just pointed out (unless you could prove me wrong? in which case it would be great Fabsports has the non-elevated part):

I offer full rail installs, or will once i resume taking in new work.

I use weapons grade aluminum and thickness is generally 3/8"
what i will be able to provide.... (and have been for a couple years now ;) ) is milspec 1913 picatinny rail. black anodized.
3.5" bipod rails that allow you to leave your existing m14 sling loop/plate in place. the rail is drilled and tapped to correspond with the sling plate holes, machine screws installed from inside the stock. These rails are are flat on the bottom to allow for epoxy bedding as it is required with my rails. I have also found too many dimension differences in m14 forstocks and dificult to mount some radiused rails straight on the stock. I am in the process of ordering a run of a good number of these as they are a fairly easy user install. pricing will be 89.95 i think.

full under stock rails up to 12 " long. these require milling a channel into the stock at the rear that the rail fits into, allowing for a "bore parallel" fit. drilled and tapped and attached by 5 machine screws from the inside via holes that must be drilled and countersunk. the whole shootin match is epoxy bedded.
these are not really a do it your self install unless you are damn handy and have a few basic tools so I generally only sell them to clients who send thier stocks in. I currently have no time to develop these into a user friendly install packaged item. for now the rail and install is availlable for 139.95 but you must send your stock in for free install

side rails up to 6 inches are also something i routinely install for clients, especially for those using Ultimak handguard mounts. again, drilled and tapped and mount from the inside via epoxy bedded machine screws. These will probably run 49.95 or 89.95 for a set of 2.

I'll know more in a couple weeks.

Hey Doc
I'm still interested in getting this done. Let me know when I can send you my rifle again. By the way love the work you did. That trigger is golden.

My order of rails that came a month or so ago arrived un anodized..... not sure what happened but nonetheless I am in a holding pattern untill inventory arrives. try me again in a couple weeks and i should be able to help those that have p.m.'d me for rail installs.
