I’ve got a Hopkins and Allen style under hammer, I bought it here off the forum years ago.
It was basket case, needed a proper breech plug, sights etc. and I just made a new stock for it that fits me better.
I have to say, it a great firearm! I love it, and the way it disassembles for cleaning etc.

I went to camp Wainwright a few years back and shot a very respectable white twin, in horrific conditions. Snow to my crotch and -27C but the Ol’ under hammer worked well and one shot with a .50 cal ball worked mercifully fast.

They’re rare as hens teeth in Canada and getting more rare in the states too as the supply dries up.

Does anyone here own one? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to easily buy these kits again….

No.
I inherited it from my Mother's family.
It belonged to my Mother's Great Grandfather.
He fought against the Fenians at Eccles Hill in May 1870.
He did not use this rifle in that event.
It stands in a cabinet with swords and bayonets gathering dust.

I don't think Mowrey's were underhammers were they. My Mowreys are side hammers.
I do have an underhammer though it's not a H&A. Mine is a custom gun from the 60's or 70's built by a fellow from Ontario. Apparently he made a few guns.

Yes they made under hammers from .32 up to .54 cal. They were modern versions of the Allen and Thurber design... Bill Mowrey was from Texas where they were built he eventually sold the firm to Deer Creek in IN. The action has only 5 or 6 parts.

I have a Pete Allen in 45 cal that I stumbled across , the action was from one of the kits at the Muzzleloader emporium. They have a following in the USA look up Billinghurst Underhammer and you will find all the info. Craig Basset from Crosnos gun works has a template for the pistol grip stock. I think they are a very good action with a quick lock time, very popular down at Friendship Indiana for the over the log and unlimited heavy matches.
on the other GP site there is a A&H underhammer posted for sale but it does not have the class as a custom / home built one.
