Unfamiliar With Region 3, specific area question.

I will be taking a family vacation into shuswap lake territory for the last week of August. What I am hoping to do is get a lot of my family into the shooting sports and this seems like a golden opportunity to do so. I am specifically going to be at Seymour Arm area and have no familiarity with the area. The cabin we are renting is 120 km from the nearest store and 45km down a forest road! I am just wondering if anyone knows where I should wander to do some plinking. I have checked the region three hunting regs and it appears you can even shoot right up to the lake. I didn't see any special no shooting zones near seymour arm and its looking quite promising but please do correct me if I am wrong!

Also, local conservation officer office contact info would help me err on the side of caution.

I live not too far from that area.. It is very sparsely populated. Ask at the store if there is a good spot or just pick anywhere where you don't see people (and is not a provincial park). I'm not a hunter so maybe someone else familiar with the hunting regs can chime in. A few notes of caution though depending where exactly you are

1. Is hunting or carrying firearms allowed in parks?
No person shall possess or discharge a firearm, bows or crossbows in a park or recreation area except during an open season as specified under the “Wildlife Act” or as authorized. Hunting is permitted in some parks where management deems it appropriate. For more information, Hunting and Trapping Information.

"REGION 3
Parks, Conservancies, Recreation Areas & Protected Areas marked with
an asterisk (*) are exempt from the No Hunting No Shooting Restriction
within 400 m of the centre line of park roads. These parks are NOT
exempt from Highway No Shooting and No Hunting Areas.
Section 29 of the Park, Conservancy and Recreation Area Regulation, the
following are open to the discharge of firearms, bows and crossbows only
during a lawful game hunting season."

(again i'd just avoid the provincial park area)

Lastly just by the nature of being outdoors make sure you bring a decent first aid kit and supplies - there is no cell service in a lot of that area and you are a LONG ways away from medical help if someone were injured.

Check city bylaws.

Check to see if the land is in a park or not then look up the park (some parks have areas to target shoot in them not many but a few do)

Hunting map is only good for hunting not target shooting as some areas it says no hunting you can legally shoot and some areas were it says it's open you can't legally target shot there because of bylaws.

The maps of provincial parks are very handy indeed and I will of course be packing a first aid kit and satellite phone. It's not my first remote rodeo but it is my first remote rodeo in this particular area.
