unique DES 69

DES 69 cleaning

Take it from an old target shooter, a DES 69 does NOT need regular cleaning more frequently than every five years or so. You do more damage to the barrel with cleaning than you will ever do by shooting it. Mine has not had a cleaning rod down the barrel in the past 25 years, nor have any other of my match 22's. Clean the mags, slide face, breach face, etc to remove the grease and crud, but don't do anything to the barrel. For those worrying about "accuracy", in a handgun the difference is so small that it can only be seen in the Ransom Rest.

Amen to that. Bore-snake is all you need if you use good ammo. All bets off with high-speed and plated bullets.

T&G,

Do you know of any other Unique magazines that fit into a DES 69? A friend just bought one LINB... and wouldn't mind having a spare or two...

Unique magazines are "unique" though they do resemble the S&W M41 and Hammerli 208 mags - one might be able to modify one to fit but I would not want to do it. My two have lasted since 1976 and at least 50,000 rounds, so the only worry is losing one. There is a Swedish company (email to info@sportec.se) that seems to have some parts, but as I'm sure you know the successors to the company melted down all the factory stock.
And if you ever locate a DES 96U (loads from the top) let me know - I really want one!
Cheers --- Dr J
