I tried using the search function because I know there was a thread on this before. It seems to have vanished.

There were a couple nutters which posted recipes which worked equally as well in all or most of their rifles.

Any recipes or link to the previous thread would be appreciated.

A universal standard load that has been used for many, many years is as follows;

56 gns IMR 4350

CCI 200

180 gn spitzer bullet (Sierra, Speer, Win, Horn..........any 180 C+C bullet) seated 10-30 thou off lands, or to book COAL

This will uniformly produce right around 2800 fps in a 24" barrel

One that I used quite successfully was 50.5 grains of Varget and various 165 and 168 grain bullets. It never seemed to matter much which bullet or which rifle I shoved them in. Varget was easier to get in Australia, but you would also have a pretty good crack at it with the similar 4064. There's a long and sucessful target history with 168 SMKs, the 30-06 and 4064.

180 grain bullets over CCI 200 primers over 58.0 grains of H4831. Very good accuracy in the worst rifles, around 1.25 in at 100yds consistently and half that in the better rifles.

165 grain bullets over CCI 250 primers over 55.5 grains of W760. Very similar results to the above load but of course higher velocities.

When I hand load for friends and I don't have the rifles to set up for I use these loads. I check the cases for overall length after full length resizing and before priming. If the cases are to long, I don't cut them back and set them aside. Often I get mixed batch and manufacturer lots from these folks. I also know the condition of their rifles and won't reload for them if they don't take proper care of them.

The set of dies I have for this purpose are set up so that the overall length of the loaded cartridge is 3.340 with spire point bullet give or take a few thousandths because of ogive differences.

These two loads approximate factory velocities and specs very closely.

I have loaded thousands of rounds to these recipes and no complaints so far. Most of these folks aren't accuracy freaks, nor are they trying to save money by getting me to reload for them. Usually they supply the bullets they want in the cases and I supply the rest at cost of course. If they ask for a hotter load, I tell them to go elsewhere.

I won't say these loads will work well in every rifle but the 25-30 rifles that use them, from semi autos to pumps and bolt actions work well and shoot acceptably with them.

I don't guarantee these loads nor promote them in any way. Use them at your own discretion and do some due diligence as to the capabilities of your firearms. Yomamma, I know I don't have to tell you this but some newbies may not appreciate the consequences involved. These loads are all well within acceptable pressure ranges for 30-06 chambered rifles. There may be some double rifles or M95 class Mausers that these will be to hot for.

I wouldn't use them for Garands or FN49 rifles.

I use the same load, but I've never gotten that much speed. 2750 with a nosler partition, and usually under 2700 with core-lokts.

I've never had a max load of Varget under bullets in the 150-180 gr range shoot poorly in any 308 or 30-06 bolt gun I've owned, and it's often been the most accurate load.

30-06

49-50 gr IMR4064 and 165 gr bullet
57 gr +/- of IMR4350 and 165 gr bullet (57 gr H4350 with a 168 TSX has been excellent for me)
59 gr RL19 and 180 gr bullet
