Universal M1 Carbine broken slide

I was out shooting with friends this weekend, and the cast slide on my buddies Universal M1 Carbine snapped like a twig! We're wondering if a real USGI M1 Carbine slide will work with the Universal M1 Carbine?

If Im not mistaken I think the early fist models of the Universal M1 were pretty close to USGI specs and the later produced models were not, Its hard to say some USGI parts may fit others wont. The USGI m1 carbines have 1 recoil spring the Universals have 2. Dont know if this helps at all

I understand the early Universal used many GI surplus parts to keep the cost down.

There are two models of the Universal carbine. Early and late. The Early models are ok and can use milsurp parts. The Late models(two return springs, a toggle for the bolt hold open and a very poorly stamped op handle.) cannot use any milsurp parts except mags.
Gunparts(they bought all the remaining Universal parts from Iver Johnson when they shut down)has slides for a round barrel and a flat sided barrel. $69.95US each. You may need the export permit.

Thanks for all the help everyone! Turns out its a late version, part has been found and the problem will soon be solved. Couldn't have done it with out the help of CGN.
